Heirloom Handouts If you don't want the members of your audience to throw away your handouts as soon as they walk out the door, concentrate on mastering these skills before your career in public speaking begins. To make sure they don't toss your handout immediately, means you have to give them a reason to keep it. I do this by making sure to add important reference material on EVERY SINGLE PAGE of my handout. I always make the material in my handouts tailored to that specific audience and presentation. The reference items I use might be web site addresses, important phone numbers, book titles, or even funny cartoons that applies to the audience's industry. You shouldn't just put information on the last page of the handout where that page can be torn off and the rest thrown away. Don't forget to put your contact information on every single page to make sure they have a copy in case they do just keep one page.
