Talk About Your Family A fun way to build rapport with your audience is to tell a funny story about your family. It's a good way to build a strong connection with your audience and help your career in public speaking. Most audience members get the "warm fuzzies" when you mention your spouse or kids in a positive light. Family creates feelings of joy and happiness in most people. Of course, you do run the risk that a few people in the audience may not like their spouse after a big argument or a divorce, or kids for reasons related to rebellion or rejection.
